Discover East Quogue

Where the Hamptons slow down, and the South Fork’s charm shines through.

East Quogue – The hidden gem ready to be discovered

East Quogue is a hamlet located on the South Fork of Long Island, within the Town of Southampton in Suffolk County. While quieter than neighboring hamlets and villages such as Bridgehampton, Hampton Bays, Quogue, or Westhampton Beach, East Quogue is the South Fork’s hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Just about an hour and a half from New York City, it offers a perfect blend of coastal charm, small-town atmosphere, and natural beauty. From its pristine white sand beaches and winding creeks to its walkable village and diverse food scene, East Quogue is an inviting destination for those looking to enjoy the Hamptons without the bustle.

History

East Quogue has carried several names throughout its past. Founded in 1673 as Fourth Neck, renamed Atlanticville in 1858, and finally christened East Quogue in 1891, the hamlet carries a rich history that can still be felt in its architecture and traditions. Many of the original homes built by early settlers remain as testaments to the community’s roots.

The first residents built their lives around farming, fishing, and woodcutting, industries that were sustained by the area’s natural resources. By the late 1800s, with the arrival of the Long Island Rail Road, the hamlet became a retreat for visitors escaping the city year-round. By the 1920s and 1930s, East Quogue had become popular with hunting enthusiasts who came for its fertile lands and waterways.
